The Power of the Bouquet: What is the Collective?
For years, Nantucket’s florists and flower lovers faced a frustrating logistics problem. If you wanted local, seasonal stems instead of flowers flown in from massive commercial farms overseas, you had to spend your mornings driving from plot to plot, buying individually from various backyard growers.
Enter co-founders Sally Obremski and Abergavenny Webb. In 2023, they launched the Nantucket Flower Collective with a brilliant, community-first mission: pull the island's independent flower farmers together under one unified umbrella.
What started with just five growers has blossomed into a thriving network of over a dozen local flower farmers. By pooling their resources, knowledge, and harvests, they’ve created a sustainable, centralized market that proves Nantucket-grown beauty is always better together.
Friday Morning Magic at Gaslight
While the Collective operates a bustling wholesale business for island wedding florists and restaurants early in the week, Friday mornings are for the public.
From mid-June through September, the Collective takes over Gaslight (3 North Union Street) from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
Stepping inside is a sensory overload in the best way possible. The restaurant's high-top tables are completely transformed, covered in buckets of lush, freshly cut local blooms. Because these flowers are picked directly from island soil, often just hours before the market opens. The colors are more vibrant, the scents are more intoxicating, and the stems stay fresh far longer than anything you’ll find at a standard grocery store.
Meet the Island Growers
When you buy a bundle at the market, you are buying a piece of someone's backyard or family farm. The market features a revolving door of distinct micro-farms, including:
- Flower Power Farm: Run by co-founder Sally Obremski out of her home in Polpis, specializing in delicate spring blooms and hearty perennials.
- Moors End Farm: Led by Abby Slosek at her family’s iconic 2-acre farm on Polpis Road, where she picks a seemingly endless variety of brilliant cut flowers all summer long.
- Florabundant: Cultivated by Anita Nettles Stefanski in the Cisco area, bringing an expansive mix of classic summer annuals and funky, unique textural blooms to the table.
- Nantucket Blooms: Tended by Patty Myers, one of the island's original local growers, who is legendary for producing some of the most spectacular, dinner-plate-sized dahlias you will ever see.

If you are hosting a summer dinner party, setting up a rental house for the week, or just love the creative process of flower arranging, the Collective offers a genius concept: DIY Flower Buckets.
Available to order on their website, these buckets come packed with roughly 75 stems of fresh focal, fillers, and foliage curated directly from the fields. You can choose between a "bright" or "soft" color palette, and the farmers will pull the absolute best of what’s blooming that morning, giving you the perfect creative starter kit to build your own custom arrangements.
