LRE’s Guide to School Vacation Week

Happy School Vacation Nantucketers! This weekend kicks off the start of the island’s much needed winter break. While some are packing their bags and catching a ferry out of here for the week, some are hunkering down for a quiet week on the island. Well, don’t worry, there are plenty of family friendly events all week long to keep everyone entertained! If you aren’t seeing something that is striking you, check out the Mahon About Town and Chamber of Commerce calendars for a full list of this week’s events!

Public Skating Time at the Nantucket Ice Rink

Monday – Friday, 12pm to 1:20pm

A week off from school might mean that the youngesters in your life need to let out some excess energy. Getting outside is always a great option, but sometimes a walk at Tupancy Links just isn’t going to cut it. The Nantucket Ice Rink offers open skate to the community Monday through Friday from 12pm to 1:20pm. So lace up those skates and hit the ice! Don’t have skates? They offer skate rentals at the rink! Check out their website here for more information.

Kids’ Movie’s Galor at the Dreamland¬†

All week!

The Dreamland also knows that it is school vacation week and planned their schedule accordingly. There are tons of family friendly movies playing all week long! Call of the Wild, the new Disney flick, is hitting theaters this weekend and has many showtime options throughout the week. And mark your calendars Frozen fans, there is a Frozen II Sing-A-Long on Tuesday! Check out their schedule here for a complete list of all the options.

Maria Mitchell Kids Programs

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday – 1:30pm to 3pm

Just because the kiddos aren’t in school doesn’t mean that the learning has to stop! The Maria Mitchell Association has put together a school vacation week program of family friendly activities. On Monday, enjoy some science art projects at Crafty Science! Use sunlight to make prints, see what happens when you mix salt with watercolors and more. On Tuesday, we learn that it is never too cold for ice cream. Head over to learn about the chemistry of ice and salt to create ice cream. Thursday, it’s robot time. Learn how robots are used in the science field every day and then have the opportunity to build your own! To cap off the week, put your animal detective hats on because animal tracking is on the schedule. For more information about all of these great programs, click here to visit their website.
