Scallop season begins, football season is in full effect, and the Whalers gear up for the biggest game of the season against lifelong rivals, Martha’s Vineyard. The small, tight knit community that draws people in starts to become the center of the island again. Familiar faces are a regular scene at Stop and Shop and favorite restaurants become local gathering spots again. Conversations turn to holiday plans, winter getaways, December Delight and Christmas Stroll.
Then winter arrives, and the island settles into a peaceful calm. We all find ourselves asking the same questions: Will we get snow this year? Will the ponds freeze enough for skating? Who has the best burger night on island? (Answer: you simply can’t know until you try them all). Even in its quietest months, Nantucket’s charm never fades. The sunsets are as breathtaking as ever, trails are alive with locals walking their dogs, and the island’s natural beauty continues to inspire.
