Why We Love Calling Nantucket Home (Year Round)

There’s no better place to be in the summer than on Nantucket Island. From Daffodil Weekend to Labor Day, the island comes alive with energy and excitement. Beloved restaurants reopen their doors, sandwich shops buzz with lunchtime crowds, and beach days stretch from sunrise to sunset. Though the population grows dramatically during these warmer months, the heart of Nantucket, the small-town spirit and sense of community, remains the same.

As fall approaches with crisp air and Nantucket foliage, we start to feel the start of calmness of the off season. Scallop season begins, football season is in full effect, and the Whalers gear up for the biggest game of the season against lifelong rivals, Martha’s Vineyard. The small, tight knit community that draws people in starts to become the center of the island again. Familiar faces are a regular scene at Stop and Shop and favorite restaurants become local gathering spots again. Conversations turn to holiday plans, winter getaways, December Delight and Christmas Stroll.

Then winter arrives, and the island settles into a peaceful calm. We all find ourselves asking the same questions: Will we get snow this year? Will the ponds freeze enough for skating? Who has the best burger night on island? (Answer: you simply can’t know until you try them all). Even in its quietest months, Nantucket’s charm never fades. The sunsets are as breathtaking as ever, trails are alive with locals walking their dogs, and the island’s natural beauty continues to inspire.

Through every season, Nantucket’s community and scenery make it a truly special place to call home. There are quite simply, no bad days on Nantucket.
