Many visitors think that Columbus Day Weekend is the “official” end of the season, with nothing going on again until the Spring. Luckily for us, Nantucket is a vibrant community with fun activities and events happening year-round. Right here on the blog we’ll bring you weekly updates, island news and upcoming events so you can plan accordingly this off-season and beyond. From community fundraisers to historical happenings, there is always something to do on Nantucket! Coming up this weekend:

 

Island Health Fair & Elder Expo

First up this weekend, The Nantucket Council on Aging and Nantucket Cottage Hospital are joining forces to offer the first joint Island Health Fair & Elder Expo this Saturday. This event includes various activities such as screenings, keynote speakers, cooking demonstrations, informational booths, and more! Above all, this event is an opportunity for the community as a whole to learn about the services available on island. This free Health Fair is happening from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, October 19th at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

 

BBQ & Game Night For The Homestead of Nantucket

Saturday October 19th, 5:30pm, VFW at 22 New South Road

Secondly, The Homestead of Nantucket is an organization that provides residency and services to older adults. Located on Upper Main Street, The Homestead offers the highest quality of service for every resident. This Saturday, head over the the VFW for their BBQ and Game Night fundraiser. Dinner is $35, game cards are $15, and they’ll also have a cash bar available. Tickets can be purchased online.

Nantucket Grown Food Festival

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at various locations

Sustainable Nantucket’s 4th Annual Nantucket Grown Food Festival is underway, which means there are events happening all weekend long. This annual festival celebrates the diversity of Nantucket island through food, featuring a multitude of different cultures and local restaurants through a variety of events. For instance, there are educational demonstrations, farm-to-table dinners, mini markets, and more! Click here to learn more about the variety of events and purchase tickets.

Harvest Fair

Saturday October 19th, 11am – 2pm at the Old Mill

Rain or shine, the Nantucket Historical Association is holding their 20th Annual Harvest Fair at the Old Mill this Saturday. Highlights of the afternoon include Autumn crafts, old fashioned games, and tours of the Old Mill to celebrate the history of Nantucket harvests! Tickets to this event can be found here.

 

‘The Giver’

October 17th – 20th, 7pm, Dreamland Theater

Join the Dreamland Stage Company for the final four showings of The Giver for a chance to be whisked away to another world for an evening. Based on the book by Lois Lowry, this is the story of Jonas and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Head to the Main Theatre at the Dreamland this weekend to catch the show!
