LRE’s Guide to Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving weekend is one of our favorites and we can’t wait to welcome you to the island for a weekend of friends, family and holiday cheer! We have put together a list of some of our favorite ways to celebrate the weekend on the island. Whether you’re out here celebrating a big family holiday or just for a cozy weekend with a friend, we have something for you to enjoy.

Take the Virtual Turkey Plunge

On Nantucket, we kick off Thanksgiving morning with a chilly dip in the harbor to support the Children’s Library at the Nantucket Atheneum. While we still aren’t gathering all together at Children’s Beach like in holidays past, we are still encouraging participants to go for a dip! The harbor isn’t calling your name? Get creative – use an ice bucket in the backyard, jump in the pond or backyard pool. To register and to find more information, click here.

Make Thanksgiving Dinner (or have it made for you!)

Thanksgiving is all about gathering together with family and friends but it is also about the food! If you’re putting on a chef’s coat and getting cooking, support local by shopping at Bartlett’s Farm or Nantucket Meat & Fish Store, or Pip & Anchor! If you’re more inclined to have the food prepared for you, you’re in luck. There are many of the island’s top chefs getting to work to help you celebrate the holiday. Check out the Nantucket Hotel, Bartlett’s Farm, The Brant Point Grill,  PPX, and Faregrounds Restaurant as they are all serving up Thanksgiving dinners. Company of the Cauldron is offering more than just Thanksgiving dinner to go. They are offering nightly dinners to go Friday-Sunday until December 12th!

Attend the ACK Chamber Tree Lighting

Now that the Turkey has been eaten and the dishes washed, it’s time to bring on the holiday cheer at the ACK Chamber’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting! Congregate on Main Street to see all the trees lit. The event runs from 4pm to 6pm. Click here to learn more details.

Let’s Go Shopping!

Christmas is fast approaching and it’s time to check some things off your holiday shopping list! We always encourage to shop local and Nantucket has some of the best gifts for every person on your list – and maybe get something for yourself too, as we all need a little treat! Grab a coffee at one of the downtown coffee shops and hit the street! We have a holiday gift guide coming up too – so be sure to check that out! Also, collect those Red Tickets at participating businesses for a chance to win big on Christmas Eve!

Take in a Holiday Production

Both White Heron Theater and Theatre Workshop have holiday shows opening Thanksgiving Weekend. White Heron Theater is putting up A Nantucket Christmas Carol, running November 25th – December 4th. Pro-tip: 50% off their Thursday performances. Check out their website for tickets and show details. The Theatre Workshop is putting up Plaid Tidings, running from November 26th to December 4th. Tickets are still available and can be found here. Break a leg to all the actors, we can’t wait to cheer you on!
